Friends Are Swell, My Girl, Wedded Bliss

Friends in High Places

I knew I was in luck this morning when I saw my friend, Jess, standing behind the till at Starbucks.  She took my order, completely undercharged me for my drink, then told me she was going to make my frapuccino herself.  Moments later a gigantic cup full of caramelly goodness was brought to my table.  It was so thick with caramel that every few sucks my straw would plug up with the gooey globs.  I opted for the decaf option and figured I needed to make up for that healthy choice by consuming 3,000 calories worth of sugar.  It all evens out, right?
Much has transipred since my last entry, although nothing too monumental.  My birthday was smashing, thanks to my thoughtful husband.  He never fails to make my birthdays memorable and I always feel special.  He arranged for his dad to babysit Avelyn, then we went out for a nice dinner, picked up an ice cream cake and came home and ate it with all of our closest friends, whom he had invited.  It was great.
The next day Avelyn had a doctor’s appointment and she tipped the scales at nine pounds!  She is really filling out.  Her newborn diapers are getting tight around her thighs and some of her iddy biddy onesies are now too small.
Then today, she smiled at me.  And it wasn’t gas.  She’s been smiling all day!  She breaks out into a lovely grin when I sing a song to her, when I shake a rattle in front of her face, when I talk in my lame high-pitched baby voice and paste a huge smile on my own face.
I think it’s safe to say that she is indeed gifted.
