Big Feelings

If you find yourself feeling some Big Feelings with all that’s going on: that is perfectly normal. I am with you. The waves of emotions can be swift and unexpected.

Here’s what’s been helping me:

  1. Going for a drive in the car all by myself and CRANKING the tunes and singing along as loudly as I want.
  2. Walking. Lots of walking.
  3. Making food. It feels like a tangible, practical thing to do. Digging out mysterious findings from the back of the pantry, the bottom of the deep freeze and then searching online for recipes that will use up the random ingredients. This slow-cooker Cashew Chicken was a hit last night.
  4. Facetime calls with loved ones, and checking in via text or Messenger
  5. Delivering food to neighbours or family. Makes me feel a little more connected and reminded that we are all in this together.
  6. A bit of mindfulness/meditation. I know I should be doing more. But. Here’s a really good one, and it’s short but very grounding. Deep breaths.

The girls are earning their keep and have also realized very quickly they REALLY miss school if it means their new responsibilities include orchard work.
