A February Fill-In

ACS-0349

February is weird. It’s still winter, but the days are getting a tad longer (be it ever so slowly) and I find myself yearning for spring, but also still feeling the need for a little more time to hibernate since I know that with the spring comes a scurrying busyness that makes my bones a little tired just thinking about it.

As far as Februarys go, ours has been really great, though. We took the kids to Maui for their first time and they loved it. We basically spent a month’s grocery budget on shave ice and I have zero regrets.

Seeing the island through their eyes was pretty awesome and I’m so thankful we were able to get away and enjoy.

Once we got home and adjusted to Real Life, the days have been full with kids’ activities: gymnastics competitions, x-country ski trips, mildly panicked trips to the grocery store to buy 48 lbs of dried beans in case the Corona virus snakes its way to Canada and we have to lock ourselves in our house for a month…you know: just the usual.

On a deeper level, this (and everything Sarah Bessey says, essentially) really resonated with me.

Because, really: are any of us fine? The more years I tread through, the more I realize just how much pain and loss and depth that reside within each and every soul walking on this FLOATING PLANET in the sky.

There is still so much for me to learn.

_______________

In less existential news, here are a few things to note:

  1. Unfollow” by Megan Phelps-Roper on Audible was a really fascinating listen.
  2. The new song “Shiloh” by Audrey Assad is beautiful and hopeful and cracks my heart right open.
  3. Since I took Instagram off my phone, I have been reading more (go figure) and am currently halfway through “American Dirt” and it’s a crazy good ride thus far.
  4. The latest documentary series on Amazon about Ted Bundy (Ted Bundy: Falling For a Killer )was insane.

Welp. That’s all I got.

Happy almost-March!
