We just got back from an incredible family holiday at an all-inclusive resort in the Mayan Riviera. The water was warm, the pina coladas were cool, and I didn’t have to cook or clean for ten days.
I took two books with me, and the first didn’t even last me 24 hours. The Perfect Nanny. It was perfect(ly terrifying and riveting). Then I read Little Fires Everywhere and it was magnificent. (Celeste Ng’s other novel, Everything I Never Told You, is also fantastic and I read it a few years ago.) Oh, how I love to read. It’s a pastime that usually gets abandoned when life gets busy (note: that’s always) so to be able to just sit in a lounge chair in the sun, while sipping an icy drink as the kids splashed in the pool nearby was amazing.
Coming home has been a tad jarring since it’s, like, minus 50 here in town and no one is making my bed for me anymore. I’ll get over it eventually but I am trying to be gracious with myself as I sift through laundry and catch up on work and ease back into being a responsible adult.
A huge thanks to Steve’s mom who spoiled all her kids and grandkids with this fantastic time away together!
