It’s become an annual tradition for our family to take part in the Giant’s Head Run, a 5.4 km race that weaves through Summerland, as part of the Action Fest festivities. Â My dad drove from the prairies for two whole days just so he could come and kick ALL OF THE BUTTS. He is 60 years old and got third OVERALL (out of over 500 entrants) and gold in his age group (aka: the really old guys).
This is us at the beginning of the race. It was hot that day. Like, a humid 33 degrees Celsius. I hadn’t trained in conditions like that so was pretty much a sweltering mess for the race. I really wanted to break the 30 minute mark but instead ran the race in 32:08 and there are parts of the race I don’t really remember. Also, when I crossed the finish line, something happened. Like, I’m not going to say with 100% certainty that I peed my pants, but it was weird. You know you gave it your all when you collapse in your own mysterious bodily fluids!
This is me a few steps from the finish line. I got 12th in my age group.
Here’s Dad getting his gold medal.
And this year, my mom partook in the race!! Her first one! Nailed it!
