We took Avelyn swimming today. This was her second encounter of the watery kind. Her first was in a hotel pool in Regina where the noisy watersliders emptied into the same pool where we swam, it was echoey and noisy and cold and she hated it. I thought that this time around would be much better; there is a warm kiddie pool (most likely warmed by the collective urine of the children who wade in the water) and I assumed the warmer temperature would put her at ease.
As we stepped onto the pool deck a lifeguard came over and told us that the kiddie pool wasn’t being heated today so we’d have to use the big, chilly pool. No biggie, right? Yes, it was a biggie, actually. Avelyn SCREAMED for the whole time we were in the pool. Even after I took her out of the water and bundled her in a towel, the sight of others swimming made her wail. We walked laps around the pool while Kaile swam a few lengths and Avelyn would freak out if a swimmer approached us. Maybe the fact that all she could see was his/her floating head was what threw her off. Regardless, she did not enjoy her morning at the pool!
PS: I CANNOT BELIEVE I am posting video of myself in a bathing suit. Momentary insanity, perhaps. Enjoy the view while you can.

There may be a dominant hydrophobia gene at work here. Her maternal grandfather is a legend for sitting with his back to the water for the entire afternoon when first taken to the lake at the tender age of two. His passionate hatred of swimming and all things aquatic continues to this day.
Hunter isn’t a big fan of the pool, either. I think it’s the noise…??
when i was a wee child, i was TERRIFIED of water. I would scream and scream at the sight of it. But finally, last year, i got over my fear ;)
Aww, poor, cute little girl!
Maybe this summer she may like her very own warm kiddie pool in the back yard, or the lake. Hopefully her dislike is only for public swimming pools.
I love your videos.
Poor Avelyn. Her life is so hard.
So sweet. Your daughter is such a beauty. I hope you dont mind me popping in to say hi. The end of your film was hilarious. I am trying to add music to video. Do you just do that through youtube? hmmm. if you can, let me know :)
poor Avelyn!
I like your bathing suit, by the way!
oh no! that’s the saddest thing i’ve ever seen!
Aww… That was so cute! I think she is a swimmer at heart though, her little legs were kick kick kicking! (but it probably to get out of the water as soon as possible though)
And you look great!
Poor girl! We’ll make her a water baby this summer at the beach!
Poor lil thing. (you look great by the way)
Awww! She is just soooo cute! I too, really like your choice of swimwear!
Aw, that’s cute.
I always thought kiddie pools were warm b/c all the kiddies peed in them. News to me! ;)
Love the video – the music? What is it for my iPod?
Mad in Alabama
I wanted to know too who the music was…please tell me!!! I love the song. That video was so cute. Maybe she’ll warm up to the water? How did you make the video? Do you have special software? Really cool!
Ooooh, poor thing. She’ll love the pool, eventually. I think all children are encoded with a gene that makes them want to swim at all times.
What a cute swimsuit!!
