My Girl

At Long Last

I feel like we’re entering a new phase with Avelyn, a good phase (after about two and a half years of not-so-good phases, some of which included: The Chest-Bumping Phase, The Refusal To Say Hi To People Phase, The Josie-Beating Phase and The Chronic Meltdowns Over Impossibly Tiny Troubles Phase).

She is fun, she is quirky, she is sensitive, she is eager to learn, she is gentle, she is quick to laugh (and still sometimes to cry), she is curious and she is wild.

She runs everywhere and goes full-tilt all day long. She is learning how to be a good friend and sister.

She makes me tired and she makes me laugh and she makes me proud.

Love you, turkey.

  • Speaking as someone who has come through the ‘walk up to random people at the park and punch them’ phase, the ‘scream rather than speak’ phase and the ongoing ‘let me give you a glimpse of the emotional 13 year old that I will become’ phase, I salute you, and am so glad that you are actually believing me that IT WILL GET BETTER!! It DOES get better, and it’s so wonderful to see a lovely little girl on the other side. :)

  • I, for one, am so happy that Emily has her as a friend. She’s a really neat kid, that Avelyn.

  • I’m not sure if my oldest is still in a phase, or if it’s just because he’s a boy. My 3.5 year old is, unfortunately, still in a Destroying Everything phase. And my daughter, well, I still have a while to go.

    I love that last picture.

  • Yay for good moods! When they’re not freaking out, wiping snot on your shoulder or peeing all over you (that’s right B had a tempertantrum that resulted in loss of bladder control…on my lap) they’re pretty stinkin’ awesome people!

It’s so good to hear that you’re enjoying her. And I bet, if she were to blog, she’d say she’s enjoying you too!

  • She is also a cutie, like her sister. I wish that I had wavy hair. I like the way you captured her, especially the first picture.

  • I absolutely LOVE that first shot!
