Friends Are Swell

I Like To Play.

In early September we began rehearsals for the upcoming Christmas musical our church was going to put on for the community. It was called “Christmas At Uncle Phil’s Diner” and was set in 1958 in, you guessed it, a diner.

I have always loved theatre but haven’t had much opportunity to do any for a while since it’s such a huge time commitment that often eats up all traces of evenings and weekends, which isn’t exactly conducive to a strong marriage and family life.

However, this opportunity arose and I (albeit a tad reluctantly) agreed to be a part of it. There were weeks when I thought there was no way we’d pull the show together, but everything came together in the end (as it always seems to) and our curtain closed for the final time last night.

I played the part of Flodene, the wise-cracking head waitress, and I loved her!

Good times all around. It was so great to be a part of something bigger than myself, my little world.

  • I wish I could have seen it. You did so well in the last play we saw a few years back. You and T look great!

  • You guys were AMAZING. I hope that the church posts (or links to) the video of it somewhere.

Seriously, though, I’m so proud of you guys. It was awesome.

  • So much fun! It felt great to laugh and enjoy it – great job! (And thanks for the haiku!)

  • i would have liked to have seen that. You’ll have to do a re-enactment when i get up to summerland :)

  • That play was the BEST play ever! You guys should take it on tour! Merry Christmas Flodene! (try a Bombay Fog at the Beanery sometime, you may like it!)

  • Dang! I wish I could have seen it – you have always had a gift for drama and I took such pride in you way back in our high school days. I would have loved to see you, a full-blown adult, awesome mom of two, and wife, up there showin’ off “yer skillz”. I’m proud of you – even if I didn’t get to see the show!

  • Looks like fun. Did they record it this year? We’d love to get a copy. Corey and I were just talking the other day about how much we miss Summerland this time of year and when I told him that he’d missed out on a play he looked as though I told him that Fords Rule and Chevy’s drool. Heehee, glad you could be a part, I’m sure it was fabulous!

  • Fabulous. I’d love to see it, too!!

  • I loved it! It was so much fun and you were a fantastic Flodene!

  • It looked like a great set and I’m sure you rocked that part!! If there is ever a link to a video clip, hook us up!

  • you look adorable!

  • Wow I love your look! Wish I could have seen you in action!

  • These pictures totally remind me of when you did Grease in high school. I’m not quite sure why, but maybe the diner part? You were always great at play-ing. ;)

  • We didn’t get tickets in time. So awesome it did so well and “sold out” so fast! I really wanted to see it! You and T look great!

  • You are seriously the cutest. And hurrah! for theater.

I was always too big a blusher to do very much acting (you know without looking like a radish), but I did once write and direct an entire play (based on an R.L. Stine book no less, haaa!) in the 6th grade, and that? Was so fun.

  • Those outfits are the best! It looks like you had a great time :) Happy Holidays to you and your family!

  • you were amazing! the second picture you posted is pretty much my favorite part of the entire play. the first time i saw you “toot your own horn” i laughed really hard. great job!

  • Good for you!
