Gender Bender

This long weekend has been busy, busy, busy!  We’ve had many visitors passing through and it’s been good to reconnect with long-lost friends and meet some new ones too.  Yesterday our good friends, Brad and Steph, said "I do" and the wedding was simply beautiful.  Steph was a vision of lovliness as she coursed down the aisle, and Brad was mesmerized by her.  The reception was fun, the food was incredible, and the company at our table unbeatable.
The other day, one of Christy’s friends, Jen, dropped by and I showed her the baby’s room.  She observed the lavender walls and the dresses hanging in the closet and asked, "So, you know that it’s a girl?"
"Yes," I replied.
"Yeah, well my brother and his wife thought they knew they were having a girl too.  Before she was born they named her Abby and painted the nursery pink and bought a dresser full of frilly outfits.  Then we got the call that the baby had been born.  And they named him Owen."
Good story.
I know that ultrasounds are not 100% correct.  But at both of ours, the technician not only didn’t see a penis, she saw girl parts.  I am still fairly confident that we’re having a girl, but I can’t seem to shake the notion that it still might be a boy.  We don’t have any boys names picked out.  (For that matter we don’t have any girls named picked out either.  Yes, it’s still a point of contention in our household.)   It would be such a shame to have to hand back the dozens of boxes of girls clothes we’ve been able to borrow from friends and have to start from scratch.  Not to mention the shock value.  I think it would take me a while to get used to the idea of a boy since I feel as though I have really connected with my baby thinking she’s a girl.  OF COURSE we will be thankful for anything that we get and I know that a boy would be amazing too.
We’ll know for sure in less than two months, either way.
Until then, I will refrain from buying more pink.

  • Pink it up, Baby! I’m sure it’s a girl…and we get to meet HER so soon!!!

  • You are utterly gorgeous.

  • p.s. Gender-neutral clothes are good too…

  • You are so. very. beautiful.

  • Perhaps if it is a boy you can enhance his metrosexual side right from the beginning, lol. Everyone thought Belle was a boy, that we were destined to have a boy, and we didn’t find out. But one night I woke up in a cold sweat and just said “It’s a girl” and I was right. Go with your gut. But I would also say stop buying pink. I mean what if she’s a yellow girl? I loved buying all the baby clothes with the babe in the shopping cart. It’s also fun to “prepare” after the baby’s born.

  • AWEsome picture!!

  • So do you have any photos of the wedding? When is your due date exactly?

  • You are a vision. I hope you didn’t over shadow Steph at her own wedding, looking that fine and all! I hope you had a good weekend and I can’t wait to know what God ha blessed you with. Trust me, you will know what to name “it” when the time is right!

  • You look so beautiful.

I’m sure your ultrasound techs were right, but if not your little boy will be glad for the green in his new room.
