Our luck has run out. For five months Avelyn has been able to dodge the flu bugs and cold germs that have been floating in her midst, but while we were in Regina she started to get a stuffy nose and developed a nasty cough. The flight home sent her over the edge and she has been an inconsolable heap of mucousy despair ever since. I took her into the doctor’s today and he confirmed that she has a raging ear infection. She’s had two doses of antibiotics thus far and is already looking a little more like herself and less like a beet red, angry rocket of rage. It feels like the good ol’ days in that I am back sleeping on the floor in her nursery, rousing every three hours to help her through her coughing fits and tread laps around the house at four a.m. while she howls and chokes on shards of firey phlegm.
I am exhausted and on edge. I hope tomorrow is better and that she is too. As I was rocking her sweaty little body this afternoon in her darkened room, she fell asleep with a frown on hr face. The pain she was feeling was etched on that upside down smile and I just felt so helpless. There is nothing I can do to help her understand why she’s feeling so horrid.
I remember when I was sick or hurt as a child I would sit with my mom and whimper, "It hurts, Mom. It hurts."
That’s what her strained frown said to me today and it made me cry.

Poor baby. It is so rough on both baby and mom when little one’s are sick. Antibiotics usually work within 24hrs so she should be feeling better soon. Cool mist humidifiers work great at helping with the mucous. Good luck.
Poor little punkin. The best thing you can do is rock her until she feels better. With my kids I would rock them and pray. Soon they would be all better. Take heart Amanda dear, this too shall pass. God bless.
Awww. I hope that your little doll feels better soon!
Isn’t it so awful to see your baby sick! Harrison had is first cold a month ago and it was SO painful for me to watch. Nobody talks about this ‘first’!
I glad to hear Avelyn’s doing better…just think, she’s stronger now than ever!
The first time is always so hard! I hope Avelyn is feeling better soon.
awwww…. I hope your little sweetheart feels better soon.
Oh no!
We have humidifiers in the kids’ rooms, and they definitely help. I hope you both are better today!
Hope both of you are doing better soon :)
Oh Manda,
it’s so hard to have a sick child. My heart goes out to you it really does. Just remember that she WILL get better.
Aww. That would be sad. Hope she (and you) are feeling better soon.
Poor kiddo! Hope she’s feeling better soon. A very happy new year to you all!
I know excatly how you are feeling. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. Happy New Year!!
I’m glad Avelyn is feeling better now. I now finally understand how caring for a baby during trying times tugs so deeply at your heart. I’m shocked I haven’t collapsed from worry yet.
