Little O' This, My Girl

My Contribution

Weekends sure are dull on the internet. It’s like everyone takes a break and sends the message “I’m too busy to update my blog because I am out and about doing really fun stuff and you are kind of lame for bothering to check in on my site every hour. Get a life!” I get so tired of cruising back to the same pages only to find that the post is still stale and I am dying to read some new material. But then I realize that it’s been a few days since I’ve updated my own blog. You only get what you give.

My weekend has been mostly good, with the exception of a boring Friday night which left me feeling friendless and tired. Everyone was busy, Steve was out with his buddies, and I just felt like a pile of mush who couldn’t peel herself off the couch. I stared at the 57 hampers of laundry I needed to fold but could not bring myself to even thinking about a chore of that calibre. So I just watched TV shows on the internet. A few days back when I was lamenting the demise of my Prison Break dvd collection someone left a comment directing me to this site and I am hooked. Since I have neither satellite nor cable (thanks a lot, Steve!) I must resort to watching grainy video files of old tv shows that sometimes have French subtitles on our laptop. Owell, it’s free. You should check it out, if you happen to be a desperate television monger like myself.

I am in the middle of some Christmas baking. Right now some homemade oreos are being whipped up but I came up with an idea to holidayize these delicious cookies: I added some peppermint extract to the icing and a few drop of green food colouring, just to be healthy. I thought of this idea all by myself, I swear. But the other day I was perusing a baking magazine and found a similar recipe (chocolate cookie sandwiches with green peppermint icing) except they were called Chocolate Mint Whoopie Pies.

Whoopie Pies?!

That just makes me think of Whoopie cushions. And that’s kind of gross. I think a better name would be : Homemade Oreos But With Mint Icing Instead of Regular.

They are good. Yes, I have already done some quality control taste testing.

Welp. That’s all for now. While Avelyn naps I plan to watch an episode of Ugly Betty (with French subtitles!) on the computer.

Anything to avoid the laundry.

  • Whoopie Pies are an Eastern Canadian recipe. I loooove ’em. My bball coach’s Mom used to make them for my team whenever she came to visit us. They are quite similar to your homemade Oreos, I think.

  • Those sound delicious! Yum. Post the recipe.

  • I totally agree… the internet is so boring on the weekends — thanks for relieving me of my boredom and rescuing me for a few moments from my (still) sick baby.

What a good picture of you two! Avelyn’s looking so grown up!

  • You two look beautiful. Also, I second the request for the cookie recipe :)

  • Mmmm…cookies. Great photo! And I saw that link in your comment and love that site too :)

  • I agree that weekends on the internet are lame. And I have to admit that even when I have something I really want to blog about on the weekend, I’ll usually save it for Sunday night or Monday morning.

  • I too surf blogs fifty million times over the weekend while I’m at work, hoping that someone will give me something, anything, to read. I sounds kind of lame when I type it out like that, but I’m used to being lame.

I’m hooked on that website o’tv goodness too, I’ve caught myself up on all the randome episodes I’ve missed over the semester. Thanks to whoever posted the link!!

  • ps. cute picture!

  • Amen!! So slow on the weekend. And yet we are all to blame. Good for you for posting.

  • hey Amanda,
Glad to see I’m not the only one who has now successfully carved a butt groove in my computer chair. If you’re not already hooked – I would highly recommend getting caught up on The Office (American version). SO hilarious.

  • Hey I update some weekends.

  • What a beautiful picture of the two of you. I love black and whites.

  • Were actually considering getting rid of cable because we download alot of TV shows and movies. Sin and Horror – I know!

We go to http://www.torrentspy.com and download all the shows we love but arent available here right now like Nip/Tuck. If we miss an episode of something on TV, no problem, just download it. We just watched Ricky Bobby last night.

  • That is SUCH a beautiful picture!!!
    And those cookies sound awesome.
