I roused early Sunday morning to see Steve sitting on the bedside holding a card. “Happy Mother’s Day, Amanda! Read your card!” he prompted.
I blinked the chunks of sleep from my eyes and focused on his writing in the card. It said, “I got you a Mac computer. Go and check the dining room table.”
My old pc has been slowly dying and I have been begging Steve for a Mac for the past few months. It’s not in our budget at this point but I thought, “Wow! He pulled out all the stops and got me that MacBook Pro I’ve been drooling over. What a great guy!!”
I walked into the living room and yes, it was true! There as a Mac sitting on the table, all booted up and purring like a kitten.
A kitten from 1991. Who is missing her back leg. And has no fur because she chewed it all of due to an anxiety disorder.
There she be!
There’s a floppy drive and everything! Now all my technological dreams can come true!
Under the monitor was a little wad of cash from Steve that he has instructed can only be used as a deposit for when we actually do get a new computer. He makes me laugh (while simultaneously dashing my hopes).
We had a nice Mother’s Day: brunch on a sunny patio at the winery down the street, a stroll to the ice cream parlour, a movie in the evening and an early bedtime. Avelyn was off-the-charts grumpy all day long and Jolie only napped for 45 minutes so the little creatures that actually made me a mother were kind of driving me crazy, but that’s what being a mom is all about, right?
Double trouble, those two.

I’m still laughing that he bought that for you. And that I was so excited for you that my screams startled Jolie so.
Just when she was starting to like me…
What a funny man, your husband. Sounds like a great Mothers’ Day.
what a funny hubby you have. i have an older powerbook g4 and we bought it used (i HATE it!!!) but my hubby has a brand new ibook (supplied by his job, lucky booger) and his is great!!! brand new makes all the difference.
it takes some time to get used to a mac, but it turns out it is possible for an old dog to learn new ticks. i hope you get your soon!
That’s too funny!! Quite the sense of humor, that Steve.
(my hubby is such a Mac geek that we have a few of those things collecting dust in the basement!)
This post actually made me laugh out loud. Yes, I LOL’d. I probably would have kicked him…Happy Belated Mother’s Day Amanda. I think you’re a terrific mom. Hugs
I actually miss the oldschool macs. Get a disk of Oregon Trail off of Ebay or Where in the World is Carmen San Diego.
Liliana has the exact same booster. LOVE your new computer. That guy sure has a sense of humor. Just like when he got you that van. Haha! Can’t wait to meet him.
that is AWESOME! I love the big chunky mouse.
LOL…. I love it. I think I got shot back to Elementary School with this post.
Uhh… I guess I’m the only one not finding humor in the archaic computer. :( I just see a waste of money (unless he got it for free, then it IS funny).
But wow… that computer just looks painful. lol
Avelyn was a perfect angel all through brunch:)
That is a very funny story. I remember having one of those macs. What cute pics of your little ones.
lol! ok, that was funny! kudos to steve for the stellar hilarity!
Hey, i have an idea…let’s sell steve’s dirtbike and buy a new computer :D
mwahahaha
He he. Love it.
My kids are 7 and 10 years old, and this was the FIRST year that they made an effort to be really good and not fight on Mother’s Day. They didn’t make it the whole day, but it was really close. The effort meant a lot to me. So…hang in there…it will come!
Oh boy, that computer brings back some memories!!! Playing Oregon trail in Kindergarten… SO funny.
your going to love the macbook pro when you are able to get it. that’s what i have and it’s like my child :)
But also double cuteness!
I’m glad you had a nice Mother’s Day! Maybe you’ll be able to get that Mac sometime soon =)
