“I’m running a little behind here. We’re at the Emergency Room. The doctors say I should be able to keep my finger,” he stated.
“Oh, OK. Right. When are you going to be home, Steve? Dinner’s been ready for a while now,” I chuckled.
“Well, they still have to stitch me up, so I’m not sure,” he replied.
“Ha-ha. Very funny,” I joked. A pause. “Wait. You’re kidding, aren’t you?”
“No, not kidding. I lifted up the lawn mower to take a look and the blades were still moving and they basically lopped off my pinky finger. It was hanging on by a thread of tendon.”
Then I barfed.
He’s OK, but hurting. His poor finger is attached, Frankenstein-style, and throbbing. It could have been so much worse, and we’re thankful only one finger was sliced, but wow, not a phone call I expected to field. If you think of Steve, say a little prayer. He’s feeling kind of down about it all.
*Updated to add: Steve is going to Kelowna for surgery tonight to better re-attach the tendons. Wish him luck. And no, I did not really barf. But Jolie did today, about six times. She’s got a fever and tummy bug and she’s teething. When it rains, it pours.

I still can’t believe it happened. These things can happen so quickly…
I’m glad it was nothing worse.
Maybe Matthew should take him on a Man Date to cheer him up :)
oh my word – that’s horrifying
I hope his poor finger is feeling better soon (and I’m glad the doctors were able to reattach it!)
ew. Poor guy. Hope he’s feeling better soon and that his pinky functions just as well as ever. :)
I’ll absolutely keep him in my thoughts. I’d recommend a hefty glass of vodka, but this is why I’m me and not a doctor or someone who should be giving medical recommendations ;)
Oh, no! Poor Steve. Hope he feels better. Glad he’s OK, though.
Oh no! That sounds so painful. Glad the docs were able to stitch it back on. I hope Steve feels better soon!
Oh my word. I’m shaking. I can’t handle that stuff. Will pray for QUICK healing!
OMG…yeouch!
He needs treated to a new beer…can you get Shiner in Canada? Shiner Blonde is really yummy.
Poor Steve! That’s awful. We’re wishing him a quick recovery!
good thing they could re-attach it! But yeah…that sucks!
ew. i want to barf when i see blood from a papercut…so i understand what you’re feeling.
Oh shoot… is he okay? That must have been extremely painful! Do the doctors have any idea what mobility in the finger is going to be like?
I know EXACTLY how he feels. Tell him He can join my “almost looped off a finger” club. Did you barf for real?
holy heck. i would have freaked out. did you really barf? i was eating a cranberry muffin when i read that it was cut off and the cranberries look just like blood!
I hope Jolie is feeling better soon, and oh goodness, I hope Steve’s finger heals well. I’m glad it wasn’t worse!

OMG! How awful!
Glad they were able to reattach. Hope he gets some good pain pills.
*HUGS* to you all…and poor little Jolie’s tummy.
wow…so glad that it wasn’t more serious although I am sure it is no picnic. Hope you ALL feel better soon!
Ugh… That is intense! Best wishes to Steve! A farmer needs his pinky!
My stomach turned at that. Well, a combination of that and the stomach flu we all had whilst visiting the wonderful Okanagan for Easter :(
Hope the surgery was a success!
I will definitely pray for poor Steve today. That’s crazy. And I will also say a little prayer for you and your girls. My you guys have been sick alot this winter. I hope it passes quickly. :)
Interesting, I`ll quote it on my site later.

Poor Steve! Simon’s dad did the same thing once.
Ugh – your poor family. I hope everyone heals up and keeps their food down fast.
Sorry to hear that! My brother did the same thing to his finger years ago and he has 90% use of it, which is amazing I think! (He just can’t bend it down as far as the other fingers, but it doesn’t stop him from doing anything he did before)
My friends status on her facebook today says, “If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain”. Hopefully the rainbow will show up soon! :)
