When I was little I hated grocery shopping with my mom. It always took so long and I would sigh, "Do we have to go down every aisle?" as though the torture of it all was more than my four year-old soul could bear. Sometimes mom would get me a cookie from the in-store bakery and I would gum it happily, keeping quiet for a few moments. The only thing good about grocery shopping was coming home and unloading the goods. The last thing to be put away was always the ice cream. We would set it on the counter while we unpacked all the other bags, then once we were done we would open the ice cream container, grab a spoon and skim off all of the soft, melted creamy goodness from the sides. Mom always insisted that ice cream that had melted tasted bad when it was re-frozen so we were diligently dedicated to insuring that we got all the soft stuff off (and oftentimes a lot of the still frozen parts that would "accidentally" get scooped up).
This is one of my favourite childhood memories.
Today I went grocery shopping with Avelyn and by the time I got home the ice cream had melted a little.
She can’t have dairy for a while yet so I ate her melty share.

I like the way your mom thinks!
I’ll have to try that trick :)
But I bet you can’t wait to share the melty part with her.
Awww…. I loved shopping with my Mom but I was always asking and trying to get her to buy the latest in cereals which I still love to try out!
That’s such a great childhood memory. Your mom is a smart lady.
I love that memory. I think I might have to adopt a similar mentality :)
