Limp

The girls and I have been hit with another cold.  Another.  This is getting mighty old.  We’ve had a cold a month since December and they usually last for a week or two, which means that we’ve been sick for half of the past quarter-year.  I slept a grand total of three hours last night while Jolie sniffled and snuffled and cried, and Avelyn hacked up her left lung, and my brain seeped slowly from both nostrils.

I had been diligently training for a 10km run and was in the fourth week of the program when my ankle started to feel a little funny.  Then that funny feeling turned to an ouchy feeling which became a “I am officially limping” feeling.  Boo!  I guess it was just too much too soon for me?  Or something?  So I tried the 30 Day Shred workout video yesterday and am so stiff and sore today that I can’t crouch down to take a pee without wincing and gripping the counter next to the can.  And my ankle still hurts. It’s frustrating that when I finally make the commitment to exercise again, my body retaliates.  My dad, who is a dedicated long-distance runner, suggests that I rest the bum ankle for two weeks and try riding my bike instead to give it a rest.

Steve is away snowmobiling all day today so it’s just me, the girls, a vat of snot, the inability to bend my legs thanks to Jillian Michaels, and my limp.

If you see me at Wal-Mart today, hobbling down the aisle, loading up on overpriced formula with a screaming baby in the cart and a rabid toddler running in the opposite direction, give me a hug and buy me a donut, OK?

  • Us too. Sick again.

One week from now you and I will be sitting in a spa, a whole childless day ahead of us.

    One week.

  • That totally sucks. I have the cold, too. I have been sleeping well thanks to Tylenol Cold & Flu PM but I really miss being able to breathe through my left nostril.

  • Good for you training for a 10k. It does get easier. Your body isn’t retaliating it is just working at getting stronger. If you are sore it means you had a great workout and you will see the benefit in no time. Hope you all feel better soon!

  • Between all of the sickness we’ve both had going on, we SO DESERVE OUR NIGHT OUT TONIGHT.

    Woo!

  • That last line made me laugh out loud! Happy cycling. ;)

  • That really depends on the type of donut you want. If you like cream-filled donuts, I can’t guarantee that I’ll make it back to you with a donut in hand just because it might fall into my mouth, but any other type and we’re good!

Feel better soon. And I hope your girls feel better soon too.

  • Oi. My Avelyn is on her 5th day of ear infection, puke and diarrhea. All while we were moving out of our house. It’s been fun. Everyone who has touched her has gotten sick but me. Here’s to hoping the last bout of vomit that covered my clothes won’t do me in.

  • THIS Works! Have you tried this? When your children cough all night, rub the bottom of their feet with vicks Vapor Rub and put some socks on them. It might take 20 min. or so but somehow it works. I think the recomended age for Vicks is 2 and up but you’ll have to double check that. Good luck!

  • Hang in there girl!

Just think, auntie Kaile (with supercape) & Kevin will be heading up to see you guys in two weeks and will give u a break!
