Pregnancy, Wedded Bliss

Making Room For Baby

So, the long-awaited nursery photos are ready! I spent the better part of this morning folding onesies and tidying up the room, just in case the baby could sense we are finally and completely ready for her arrival.  Before I reveal what the nursery looks like, I think we ought to take a disturbing waltz down memory lane.  See, the nursery, in its former life, was Steve’s office (a term I use loosely).  It was the messiest room in the house, a total catch-all for random goods, and I dreaded setting foot in there.

Shudder.

See those boxes piled ceiling-high in the corner?  They had electronics from the ’80s in them.  You never know when you’ll need a rotary telephone.

I single-handedly carried every one of these items downstairs. Yes, you can feel sorry for me.  The goods are now in a new messy room downstairs, but I don’t have to look at them anymore and Steve promises he is going to sift through the rubble this winter after apple harvest is done and he’s regained some semblance of sanity.

All of my hauling paid off and we were able to start with a clean slate for the nursery.  We painted it a rich colour called Antique Rose (actually, my father-in-law and his wife were kind enough to do the painting, thus saving my fat pregnant back from much pain…thanks again, you two!) and it turned out perfectly.

Quite a change, no?

I was really drawn to vintage alphabet sets and incorporated them into the room in a few places.

We still have a large, dark wood mirror to hang above the change table.  But that probably won’t happen until December.  Of 2012.

Here’s the bedding I made.  Christy did most of the quilt but I did the bumper pads all by myself!  Just don’t look too closely at the seams, OK?

And here is Avelyn wearing a six month old’s sleeper as a jacket and jumping in the crib, her tangled mop of hair still unbrushed for the day. It’s how she rolls.

And there you have it!  We are ready!

  • That room has come along way since I saw it in mid reno. It has come together nicely. Hope there is a baby in it by the end of the week!

  • “…probably won’t happen until December. Of 2012.” Ha! Maggie was 13 months before I hung anything on the walls of her nursery. We moved 2 months later and her new room (we’ve been here 9 months) has nothing on it’s walls, either. Oh well!

Love the room and the colors! Can’t wait to see the baby that belongs in there!

  • Yay! Lets get on with delivery! :-)

  • Oh, what a good feeling that you are ready for you newest baby. I am jealous- I love the mystery and suspense of the end of pregnancy. Of course, I love it more when it’s not ME wondering today? or today? or today?… The nursery is beautiful! I can’t wait to see how your adventure unfolds!

  • Next time you post, it better be of the “I’m heading to the hospital” variety of posts.

  • Great job on the room. It looks very warm and cozy for the baby. =) How could she not want to come out today and see it?

We have a bedroom/computer room/craft room/put things out of sight room as well. I dread the day I have to clean it out for a nursery.

  • I LOVE the bedding! You did awesome with it…piping and everything!

Can’t wait to see pictures of the baby…can’t wait to read what you’ve named her!

Now it is up to this baby to arrive on time – tomorrow and at a decent hour.

  • Really nice!
It was nice seeing you at the movie tonight, you did good not having to pee once! Unless you were sporting a secret adult diaper! Hehe! Wasn’t it good? I loved it!

  • How cute! I love the alphabet thing you’ve got going on. And the bedding looks great!

  • I love the before and after!! I love the colors and decor. And the seams look great on the bumper!! :)

  • What a daunting task to get that room cleaned out – but I love the final result. Very chic! If coolness is genetic I think that your little girl will have lots of friends. Can’t wait to hear about her arrival.

  • Wow, I can’t believe you did all of that clearing out yourself. Pregnant and with a toddler, no less! The nursery looks beautiful.

  • !
I bought those Martha Stewart alphabet letters at Michael’s last summer. I have no children but saw those and did the first creepy thing ever. I bought them to save for framing for when we do have our first little one.

I found them in a drawer the other day and was pleasantly surprised b/c I had forgotten about them. They’re sooo cute!

  • i cannot believe you made that! gorgeous!

and wearing the sleeper as a jacket???? awesome! love her!

  • Looks great – Nice job on the bumper pads! Can’t wait to see the new baby. And Avelyn…nice hair. That’s how we roll around here too.

  • The room is beautiful Amanda! Hope everything goes well with the new baby when she gets here! Avelyn is an absolutely beautiful little girl as will be her little sister I’m sure. Hard to imagine it was 9 years ago now that we were in youth group together. Man time has flown.

  • dramatic change! Looks so wonderful, I love the vintage alphabet…great touch! You did awesome on the bumpers, I haven’t tackled anything like that yet, so I stand in awe. Now get that baby out of you!!!

  • The nursery is beautiful! And so is Avelyn! So cute! Wishing you the best (I remember how I felt after 3 days of being overdue and boy was I HUGE)
