I know of a few women whose water broke after they had nice, long baths. So yesterday I asked Steve to keep an eye on Avelyn for a while so I could soak in the tub and try to follow suit. I filled the bath with steaming water and even added some luxurious bath salts for good measure. I gently stepped in, anticipating the warmth of relaxation and the chance to quietly commune with my unborn baby and tell her how ready we are to meet her.
Turns out it’s hard to relax when one feels like a manatee in a gravy boat. Seriously, did my tub shrink?! I couldn’t find a remotely comfortable position, my belly wasn’t even submerged, and I only laid there for about six minutes before awkwardly sliding out and wrapping a(n utterly useless by this point) towel around my bulbous frame. And, of course, no water broke.
I know I have yet to post photos of the nursery but there’s a good reason for the delay: I have been totally procrastinating about the final tasks that need to be done in the room so while it’s close to being ready, it’s not photo-ready. Like, I washed the baby’s clothes about two months ago but they are still sitting in a hamper, waiting to be folded and sorted. And the wicker baskets on the change table are haphazardly filled with diapers and wipes and breast pads, but I need to organize them. I think part of my is putting it off in the hopes that it will make the baby come sooner since we’ll be caught off-guard. Like, if I have everything perfect and pristine and waiting, then I’m going to go really overdue. I know, it makes no sense. Also, I am just lazy. Want to come sort my wrinkled infant onesies?

That doesn’t sound like a very enjoyable bath…Maybe things will be backwards and if you have everything totally ready you will go into labour!?! If I lived closer I’d come sort your laundry, cause little baby stuff is adorable!!! What day is your due date, again? Excitedly waiting for pictures of the nursery and even more, the baby! Thinking of you!
I LOVE sorting baby clothes. You pay for my flight, and I’ll be your maid for a day!
Sorry your bath wasn’t what you had hoped…the best thing about our new house is our huge soaking tub that I have taken quite a loving to now that I am pregnant with baby #3. My first son came 2 days early so I was certain my second would to…yet he came 6 days late. Here’s hoping your little angel comes very soon. Can’t wait to hear the good news of her arrival.
We finally prepared Paige’s room about a week before she was born. (!!!)
I washed and prepared her car seat, pack & play, bouncer, and swing on a Saturday, four days before her scheduled c-secion… and she arrived that evening. (!!!)
Best of luck to you :)
I was due August 30th, but I delivered my baby boy on August 17th! Not sure why, but I keep having my kids early. I like to attribute this one to vacuuming my 1400 square foot carpeted house the night before. Worth a try!
I was due September 17th – M was born the 23rd. I did much more then warm baths to spur things on and nothing, even my mid-wife’s methods of induction, worked. I finally gave in and had them break my water with a knitting needle (hey, it’s what it looked like) because neither my hubby or I could stand much more of the suggested activity to start labor.
Yeah, Josie was 12 days late and everything was perfect and waiting for her. Camera with fresh batteries, video camera charged, labor bag packed, freezer stocked with food, drawers full of perfectly folded clothes. So yea … don’t touch that basket of laundry, clean up the cobwebs ;) and that baby will come in no time.
I’m thinking of you dozens of times a day!
“like a manatee in a gravy boat”
Lukewarm tea came out my nose. I hope that brightens your day a little bit.
My birthday is the 4th of September, and I love it. It’s almost always near Labour Day, there were always kids around to come to my birthday parties (because everyone was always back from holidays!), and it signals the beginning of fall, which is my favourite season.
I hope your little girl is born on or near her due date, and enjoys having an early September birthday as much as I do! Good luck in the next few days!
it was the teeter-totter that worked for me. My friend’s daughter has magical, labour-inducing properties. Everyone seems to go into labour 24 hours after see-sawing with her and we’re joking about hiring her out. I’d set you up if you lived a bit closer….
How about waiting till Wed? Then I’m “unavailable” for picking apples on Thurs. Oh, heh, that won’t work for Steve tho’!! Whenever that baby decides to make an appearance I’m ready & waiting with my “grannie” bag packed….so excited!
I understand the whole waiting game, especially with the second baby that according to the “they”s of the world are to come on time or early. I was late with my first (2 weeks) and late with my second (1 week). Don’t let all the natural induction suggestions everyone has get you down and get everything done that you can and enjoy every minute you have with your first. I had a really hard time at the beginning of August wanting the baby to come, but I learned to enjoy every extra day lance and I had together, especially now that I seem to be feeding the baby every hour.
Don’t forget a ‘due date’ is not so magical. Only 5% of babies are born on this supposed magical date. It’s more of a due period we really have. So, not really ‘late’ or ‘early’ unless before 37 weeks and after 42 weeks. What a huge time difference those weeks are though. If there really was one true way of inducing labor we would all know it. It will soon be your turn!
Just wanted to add my well-wishes. I remember overdue only two well. Good times… good times ;)
I’ll help! Want me to come over and fold onesies with you?
Adding my good vibes from NH! Hope your feeling well.
Good Luck!
