Pregnancy

Schooled

Last night Steve and I made the trek to the local community college to partake of our first prenatal class.  It was very informative and interesting.  The instructor is a certified doula and is quick to admit that she is an advocate for "normal birth", meaning as natural as possible.  She hopped on her soapbox a few times but overall I was very impressed with her knowledge and demeanor.  We spent the first hour of the class going over such basics as what to bring to the hospital for your delivery and postpartum recovery.  Then we went to the hospital for a tour.  It was so nice to be able to see the place where my baby will make her entrance.  The teacher showed us how to get to the maternity ward and we then we toured the birthing rooms.  I think it will be very helpful to know where I’ll be giving birth and be able to mentally prepare for it.  All of the talk of birth and delivery actually made me quite excited.  You mothers out there may scoff at my enthusiasm, but I am just so looking forward to meeting our girl that the pain of labour is something I’m semi-anticipating as it will bring me closer to her.  For both Steve and I, the reality of the upcoming birth became that much more of a reality after seeing the hospital rooms and picturing ourselves there.

WE ARE HAVING A BABY.

There were six other couples in the class.  Everyone looked just as nervous and excited as we felt and it was so nice to see some other pregnant ladies.  Double chins, dangley triceps and spreading bottoms were all around me and I felt as though I looked as nature intended.  When we hopped in the car to head to the hospital Steve proudly told me that I was the hottest chick there.

Now if that don’t melt a girl’s heart, I don’t know what does.

  • I’m glad it went well. And yes, while it does seem crazy to mom’s who’ve been there, I was SO excited about going into labor and meeting ouir girl!

  • That Steve is a smart man.

  • Those prenatal classes make having a baby more of a reality. Enjoy them! I met some pretty special ladies in my classes in Penticton!

  • Glad to hear that you enjoyed your first class. Even though we aren’t planning on having our Baby at the PRH or in a hospital at all, it was also exciting for us to see the maternity ward. It makes it all real.
Hey did you see the Breastfeeding photos in the birthing rooms? I took them! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I love breastfeeding pictures. :)

  • I think it’s great you’re excited. Labor and delivery are a time where you have to be ready to roll with the punches, with all the info you’ll be gathering it’s easy to get caught up in “planning your birth experience”, but you can’t plan for it because no one knows exactly how it will go for you so being excited is probably the best place to be, ready for anything.

  • We LOVED going to the class & getting prepared for Baby. CAN’T WAIT TO MEET BABY BROWN!!!

And I have NO DOUBT that you were the hottest one there :)

  • Sheri is great. I really enjoyed her for our prenatal classes. Dana and I drove all the way from Kelowna to get into her class. At the time Kaili and Carleen were assisting the classes too. The anticipation is killing me. LOL. I am so excited for you and STeve and yes- you are one hot preggy!
