Little O' This, Pregnancy, Weight

Bits

I ponied up to the dreaded doctor’s scale and slid the marker further to the right than I would have liked.  5 pounds.  I was sure that my doctor was going to club my shins with a speculum but she didn’t say a word.  Probably for fear I would sit on her.

After taking my blood pressure she pulled out the doppler thingie and spent a few moments tracking down the baby and we got to listen to its heartbeat!  What a sweet, reassuring sound.  If you ask me, it totally sounded like a boy’s heartbeat.  I thought, “That heart belongs to a baby with a weiner.”

My parents fly in tomorrow to brace themselves for 10 days with Avelyn.  I am so looking forward to seeing them, but also to ditching them with our kid while we traipse off to paradise for a while.  I know I am going to miss Avelyn intensely after the thrill of not having to wake up three times a night (is anyone else’s toddler still refusing to sleep through the night?) dissipates and I realize that the two and a half-foot tall companion I share my days with is on another continent, without me.  Owell, this realistically is the only child-free holiday we will be able to enjoy for the next couple of decades so I plan to enjoy it.

I am also feeling much better about my wardrobe since some great friends have willingly surrendered some adorable sundresses and skirts for me to try and squeeze into while in Hawaii (thanks, Tamara and Christy!).

Good night!

  • Horray for grandparents! Avelyn will have a great time with them! I’m sure you’ll look great in Hawaii, you always do! Have a safe and awesome trip!

  • My daughter (16 mo) does not sleep through the night, ever. Our strategy? We don’t focus on it, we don’t stress about it, we don’t count how many hours she DID sleep and how many she DIDN’T- it seems this just makes it WORSE w/o solving a thing.

I hope Hawaii is a blast. Sounds very appealing…

  • My 5 year old still wakes up in the night at least once a week and crawls in with us, after I make sure he does not have to tinkle, I scoot over and go back to sleep.

I hope you have king size mattress because with two babies it is gonna get snug in that bed of yours!

  • Have a great vacation!

  • Lucky you – escaping winter to enjoy the sunshine. Hope you have a great holiday!

  • I’m still looking for the wormhole that will transport me from my desk straight to Hawaii.

    Have a great vacation!

  • I love your blog and read it everyday :) Just one question – is Hawaii another continent?

  • Have such a great time in Hawaii!

Hoping that the heartbeat really ends up to be one that belongs to a baby with some bits.

  • I really loved waiting to see if I was having a girl or a boy! Have a great vacation!!

  • Oh, have a wonderful wonderful time, you two. Yay!

  • Have a great trip. I cant even imagine a night without the kids let alone 10 days. And, our 8 year old usually wakes up once a night still!

  • Oh yay for gaining weight while pregnant! I gained 9 lbs in two weeks once. Not cool.

  • Have a wonderful time! Take lots of pictures and enjoy your last child-free vacation for a loooong time!

  • Have fun! Is it a work trip or just for pleasure?

  • Yup, Evelyn still gets up EVERY night!! Argh! But sometimes when she does sleep all night I go in to see her anyway. Damn those mothering instincts! =)

    Have fun HI!! Big fun!

  • You will love Hawaii. I got married there and didn’t want to come back at all! Enjoy!

  • Duncan gets up at 5:30 every night/morning but now that I’m not breastfeeding I make Cory do all the am visits. It’s heavenly to hear him and not have to get up honestly… But 5:30 is not the middle of the night so we’re reasonably lucky.

  • I had a heart attack yesterday when I gained 6 lbs in ONE MONTH!!! I had been doing so good but then my appetite came back. I am so depressed! I hope you have the best time in Hawaii. I am seething with jealousy at your getaway. Get a tan for me!!!!

  • Hawaii is the greatest place on Earth. Interested to know which island you’re going to…

  • I’m so excited for you! I sooo wish I was going to Hawaii!
