I was at a nice little baby shower this morning and one of the ladies there came and scooped my baby up in her arms and exclaimed, "Oh, you’re so cute, baby Avelyn!" Sweet, right? The thing is she pronounced the name with a hard ‘A’ so it sounded like "Aiv-alyn" and I was too polite to correct her. For the record, my girl’s name begins with a soft ‘A’ and rhymes with: javelin, travellin’, and the judge banged his gavel-in.
What I usually tell people who give me a funny look when I tell them her name is that it’s like Evelyn, but with an A.
So, there we go.

People are silly! I do the same thing with Jaia. I always say, “Jaia, like Mya, but with a J!” there ya go. :)
Oh. Good thing you clarified that. I’ve been saying it wrong in my head ever since I first saw her name.
Sincerely,
Randa
(“No, not Wanda/Brenda/Miranda/Rhonda — it’s RANDA. Like PANDA, but with an ‘R’.”)
