An Outlet

Yesterday morning as I was rummaging through my closet trying to piece together an outfit for work during the 5.8 minutes it takes Avelyn to consume her hunks of banana and multigrain cheerios, I grew a little weary. I tried on about four skirts, three pairs of pants and a dozen shirts and every ensemble made me want to throw up a little in my mouth. Nothing fits (I am NOT complaining about my weight loss but this is one of the more bothersome side effects). And everything that does fit is really outdated because I haven’t been able to squeeze into it for seven years.  Fashion trends changed while I was busy fluctuating between chubby and pregnant and now all my old “skinny” clothes are out of style.

Fret not, however.  For this weekend I, along with four of my gal pals, will be hopping into a forest green minivan (classy!) and crossing the border to do some hardcore shopping in the States.  With our dollar so high these days we’re hoping to score some sweet deals at the outlet malls.

This trip is funded by my birthday account.  I turned 25 in August and whenever people asked me what I wanted for me birthday I would reply with, “Cash.  Of the cold and hard varieties.”  So I’ve got a nice little wad of  loot that’s been set aside for some American treasures.

Even if I don’t find any great deals, it’s going to be so much fun to get away from the busyness of caring for a screeching child and just be able to let loose with some great friends.

In a minivan.

  • Oh what fun it is to shop in a country not your own!

  • I hope you have a great time! Happy shopping.

  • Share with us your finds when you get back! But mostly, have fun.

  • I just learned to day that Canadians suffer from a lack of Target stores! Is it true?

Becasue if it is, I’m totally and completely miserable for you. I thought MY life was w/o Target.

Also, outlet malls RULE. We have one near us. Sometimes my girlfriends and I head off in my SILVER minivan. With 6 inches of crumbs on every surface.

Because we moms? We know how to rock it. (At least we don’t wear “mom jeans”!)

  • Haha. I’m still resistant to the idea that I’m a Mom. Like I’m nothing else. I actually get mad if anyone but my kids call me Mom. I drove a minivan for a while…but now I’m back to a sedan. With a sunroof! I refuse to grow up and be totally responsible. So what if the kids are crammed into the back seat with luggage when we go on trips. I have my sunroof! And I was just reading an article in the Spokane newspaper about the numbers of Canadians who come down to shop…and I thought What?!! You don’t have strip-malls and Walmarts on every corner like we do?!! Travesty! I am kidding, of course :)

  • Sweet. minivan parties rock the hardest. and kudos to you on reaching the “i need new clothes cause everything is falling off of me” milestone…

  • Have a great time. I love shopping, especially for skinny clothes.

  • I presume you will be hitting up some outlets in my lovely little state. The tables have turned, I used to head up that way to score some great deals, now it is your turn to take advantage of the deals, only fair I guess.

Have a great time shopping, I always do really well at the outlets, although most of what I end up buying is for Charlie.

  • So your coming to my side of the border? Should be fun. Can’t get enough of those outlet malls. =)

  • That sounds like so much fun! Please show everything you buy… I want to live vicariously through you and your personal wad of loot. :)

  • Oh, how I wish I was coming! Alas, my husband needs me here so he can chop fire wood. And finish our laundry room. The hanging on the line of each and every article of clothing has grown old. And bothersome :)

Have fun though! Maybe bring a photo of me along so we can all pretend I was there ;)

  • Wow, you received all of the money back in August and you haven’t spent it yet? That is will power that I sadly do not possess. Money burns a big ol’ hole right through my pockets!

  • I’m so stoked for you guys!!

  • Going outlet shopping with a van full of girlfriends is my idea of an awesome good time. Have fun!

  • You have lost weight from Weight Watchers, right? I’m thinking of starting. What do you recommend for low-fat/low-calorie breakfasts and snacks? I hope that you find some nice new “skinny” clothes.

  • Woot Woot!

  • Have a great time!

  • I can’t say that I’m very happy about what the dollar’s doing, but if it improves the life of someone like you, then it’s worth it.

  • Have fun shopping for new clothes! Hope you find a bunch of great deals!

I go across the border to Buffalo every 2-3 months with my girlfriends and it is SO much fun! I absolutely love Carter’s, Osh Gosh and Target. Can you tell by my list that most of the loot is children’s clothes?!? I guess that is what happens when you become a mom.

  • can I say JEALOUS?!? But I’m going to sunny Arizona for Christmas and really, that’s not too far away…so I’ll just save save save!

  • I’m totally stealing that line for next year’s birthday festivities. “Cash, of the cold and hard varieties.” Too great. Have fun! Take pictures!

    : )

  • And just what is wrong with the fashions of seven years ago? My treasured Y2K black (sort of) fleece is still a mainstay of my wardrobe and a sentimental favourite of Grandma’s, her threats to donate it to the homeless notwithstanding.

  • Oh my gosh. You’re only 25?! That’s, like, my age! You’re far more grown up and way more put together. Dang, now I’m depressed.

  • I will live vicariously through you and your shopping trip. I even envy the minivan, if it’s taking you toward blessed capitalism. (sobs quietly for Sephora…)

  • virus tamiflu effective tamiflu

  • Have FUN!!!! (as if you won’t) :)

  • Wish I was coming to do some shopping down south! Even in a minivan! Can’t wait to fit back into non-pregnant clothes!

  • Woohoo! Have fun!
