Little O' This, My Girl, Wedded Bliss

A Little Taste of Normal

For those of you who know us in person, you’ve seen what a crazily busy year this past one has been for our little family.  Steve worked full time, ran the orchard and had a rental home moved onto our property and grandly restored it.  He has been working every single day, every single evening, and every single weekend for the past year and it’s been hard on us both, in very different ways.  I wasn’t the one swinging the hammer at one a.m. but I was the one spending my evenings alone with a wailing infant, wishing I could have a little help from The Daddy.  Things are, at long last, finally coming to a bit of a close.  Our tenants moved into the rental home and there are just a few odd jobs to finish up on it.  Apple harvest is nearly done.  I am so happy to have my (very tired) husband back.

This weekend we did some deliciously normal things and I was elated.  On Friday night Steve and I went on a date night and shared two steaming deep dish pizzas from Pizza Hut (SCORE!) then we came home and had some much-needed time alone to just talk and laugh and reconnect.  It was fantastic.

Then on Saturday my dear friend, Christy (who just so happens to be starting up a photography business) came to the orchard and did an afternoon photo shoot with us to build up her portfolio.  Here’s a little sample (more shots seen at her blog):

The whole family (notice Rolo sprinting towards the camera for his closeup).

Here’s Avelyn getting some air:

I promise Steve was just out of the frame, ready to catch her.

Love, sweet love.

We’ve definitely got a few good Christmas card photo candidates in the mix.

Thanks, Christy.  You are thee beeeest.

This little taste of normalcy was as good as I had hoped it would be.

  • Congrats on having your husban back. My husband & I work opposite hours (I’m days, he’s nights) so we can juggle the kids without dacycare and I know it can be tough parenting alone.

Also, what amazing pictures. You guys look GREAT! Do you think Christy would come down to sunny Southern California to take pictures? Much better than the family phots I had taken at the mall!

  • It’s so nice to hear that your crazily busy year is nearing an end, it is rather draining to be a married but feeling single parent, so glad you guys are getting some time together again. And those pictures are to die for. So happy to hear Christy is going into business, she’s awesome!

  • I think that if your family gets any more good looking, you’re going to have to get either a) permission from Hollywood, or b) an agent. No lie.

I’m pleased for you. Downtime is good.

  • Those are amazing photos and I’m so envious of the setting! The lake in the background is beautiful. You are very luck to have such a talented friend.

  • WOW!! Those pictures are incredible. I’m quite fond of the first one…what a stunning view (and beautiful family and pooch)!

  • Hi,

I found your blog via Leah’s. Is there any chance you might have a bed & breakfast in the future, for stressed-out Americans that need fresh air and relaxing scenery? I could help eat (I mean, pick) some apples.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos.

  • Oh my god- those pictures are beautiful.

  • Just beautiful!

  • LOVE THEM ALL!!! She did amazing. That one of avelyn in the air…incredible! I am so proud of her, I know she will be successful. She has got the touch. oh, and you look hottie times ten. seriously! envying the fact that you have no saddlebags or hips, just long legs…you suck.
Oh, and glad you and Steve got to “reconnect”….hope there were candles and Barry White involved…(wink)

And, I totally hear you on the down time thing. Our normal is so not normal. And the evenings alone with your child, they are not easy. Yay for Daddy time though! :)

  • Wow, I echo everything already said. Photos – *breaktaking*. The three of you – all hot! Location – absolutely stunning. You guys are all so lucky. Christy is so talented, how awesome that she’s going to do it for a living! If she ever feels like coming to Aus for some shots, I’m her girl, hahaha :)

  • Dear god, please make my life so cool one day that I call a photo shoot “a little bit of normal”. :P

Seriously, those shots are just awesome!

    Kris

  • Wow! You live right by a lake! What a view! Can I come visit. Great pictures too… it helps when the models are just as beautiful as their surroundings.
