“Do you think you’re having a boy or a girl?” people would ask, early in my pregnancy.
“Well, I am pretty sure it’s a girl since I have double D’s and BACK FAT again, but we’re going to be in trouble when it comes to picking another girl’s name. Last time we fought for the entire 40 weeks about what to name our baby girl,” I would reply.
Yes, it’s that time again! Join us as we watch Steve and Amanda butt heads about an appropriate name for their unborn child!  Mayhem ensues.
I love Avelyn’s name. It suits her perfectly and I can’t imagine her with any other name (no, not even Anneliese).  The thing is, I had never even heard of the name Avelyn before I started scouring the internet for prospective baby names. I feel like every name I have ever heard already isn’t “the one” and I think I need to come across another undiscovered gem of a name, dust it off, and decide if it’s for my new girl or not.
Here’s where you can help. Do you know of any unique (not weird, fruity or freaky) girls’ names that we could use? Perhaps one I might never have heard before? C’mon, how cool would it be to be able to say that the Internet named my baby? Very. That’s how.

Well, I’ll offer the name I planned to use when I was 15 until about 24 (when I got engaged and therefore knew I was going to have Mike’s children and he HATES the name): Caris.
I do believe this would be my official delurk (I can’t remember if I commented a loooong time ago, maybe on one of your WW posts?) – so, Hi! I love your blog :)
I really enjoy the name Amelia – it’s my grandma’s name, and my middle name, and I love that it’s an older name, but it sounds kind of new and fresh (since it hasn’t been used much for years). And maybe it would go well with Avelyn?
Olivia is also really cute. Another sort-of-oldie but goodie.
Batwinda.
OH! You need a real name! ;)
I liked Kaylen early on when I was pregnant with Paige. But I could never figure out a good spelling of it. I just like how it sounds.
Adeline
Sophia
How precious, another girl!
How about Mayla? :) Can’t wait to hear what you two come up with! :)
I’ve never commented here before…but I love names!
My favorite girl’s names are Ella, Riley, Annabel and Macy.
Check out this naming website. It’s pretty cool.

Good Luck!
Well two names that were on our list with girl the third were Karis and Marin. Both unique names, but not made up, ya know? In fact, she was Marin to me my ENTIRE pregnancy- that’s the name I just kept coming back to. But then when she was born, my husband convinced me to name her Leah, so now she gets to be Marin on my blog. =) I also know a baby girl named Rinnah, which means heavenly music, and I think that’s cute. What about Harper? Love that one too.
LOVE to talk about baby names. Keep us in the loop!
I love the name Quinn for a girl (or boy!)
Grace, Jane and Madeline are my other faves.
Avelyn’s name is how I came across this blog. Sometime last year the name just popped into my head and I fell in love with it. I searched online for the name and up popped your wonderful blog.
Sadie and Stella are two other names I’ve been thinking about lately.
I am a sucker for older names, so I like Lucy, Nellie, Anna, Alice and I also always like Faith, Grace and Joy.
Oh, I also agree with Steph. I love Sophia.
My daughter’s name is Emilia- we call her Emmy for short. Another one on our list was Neve, which was what we would have named our third had he been a girl. I also loved Annelise.
Can’t wait to hear what you decide!
Lyla, Harmony, Imagine
Layna is my pick for a girl’s name for you.
I always found girls names way easier than boys. Good thing I had 3 of them. A few I liked were Ainsley, Shelby, and Amera. My friends little girl is named Presley which has kinda grown on me. I also like Marin.
I also like Layna, but I have a different spelling–Leighna. I also love Madelin. And Lily.
My favorite girls names are Adelaide and Cadence. Although I have one that I would TOTALLY use if I was having a girl and I am only telling you because even though I am not pregnant and don’t plan on becoming pregnant in the next couple of years- I am already convinced that my second child will also be a BOY.
Everette.
Yes, for a girl.
Good luck!
I have a friend who’s girls are Elyse and Alaina and I consider those unique. For us, it was Maggie for the first and if their is a second girl for us at some point it will be Charlotte (my great-grandmothers name).
i really liked noella for a girl, but our last name is hall and if you say it too fast it kind of sounds like “alcohol.” so, although it was one of my favorite girl names, it just didn’t work with our last name. we ended up going with audrey- classic and pretty.
i LOVe Sophia, Victoria, Lillian (Lilly for short), Camryn, and Scarlette! Good luck :)
I love names! We went round and round on names for our little ones (Caroline and Oliver). Caroline has always been one of my favorite names. I live in the south and somehow the southern drawl makes it sound even more pleasing. I also like that it means “song of joy”. My other favorite girls names are Emmaline, Matilda, and Cora.
And one more: Adelaide. I think it goes nicely with Avelyn, too.
Are you trying to stick with a theme? Like, another A? We are doing the alphabet… have Ailane and Blake already… the next one will be Carrington or Conner.
Emelia, Emmaline and Penelope were on my list the last time around. We didn’t use any of them, though, because they just wouldn’t work on a boy. (Graham, however, works quite nicely.) I like Esme, too, but it absolutely doesn’t work with our last name.
Down here (NC) everyone names their kids after their mother or grandmother – but they use their maiden name. Sort of strange, but occasionally you’ll hear something that just works. My Grandma’s maiden name is Blonde (pronounced Blondie). haha! Just doesn’t work for me.
Anyway, here’s a few more random ideas – Stella, Opal, Aleah, Felicity, Jane, or Maya. Personally, I like somewhat masculine first names paired with a girly middle name – my cousin’s name is Michal Lindsay.
I like the names : Alana, Petara, Annika, Phoebe, Raena, and Jelea.
I know people with all of these names and they are awesome! such unique yet fairly normal names.
Good luck!
Here are a few of ours that we didn’t end up using –
Emilia
Annalie
Molly
Madeline
Lily
Ava
Elise
Good luck!
I like Camilla. I also have to admit, I always sort of wanted a girl so I could name her India. (That might be very unpolitically correct. India like the ink, not the country! Don’t ask why I’d want to name a child after ink.)
Raina. Piper. Dexter (I love this one, but my husband didn’t). Jaelyn. Kessa.
Naming a baby is hard enough. Getting your spouse to agree on your name is even harder.
I really like the names Raleigh (Ray-lee) and Emerson.
I have a Madelyn, so I’m partial to that name. I like Aisling and Moira.
Oh, the name debate. Avelyn’s name is so unique without being out there…I can see why it’d be a hard act to follow. :)
Suggestions: Emmanuelle (Emmy, etc.); Scarlett; Anne (plain but LOVE); Eliza; Carys/Cerys (Welsh…like all the Kate/Katie/Kaylen names without being too obvious); and Ada (old but it seems everyone is naming their daughter “Ava”). Oh, and the person who suggested “Everette”…very cool.
Ha, I love that people suggested my name; I chose it for my blogging pseudonym for a very special reason (if you want to know, feel free to ask; I just don’t want to trumpet it around the Internet because it…well, if you find out you’ll know why).
I like the A theme…
Arika
Alexa
Arin
Audrina
I hope there is something that you can both agree on!
:)
Some of the names I have always loved are: Ellody, Koralee, Madison, Aimee, Naomi, Addison, Riley, Sheridan, Emmalyn, Kayden, Amelie.
My all time favorite name for a girl is Ella!
I also like
Mia
Payton
Antonia
Analise (one of my best friends’ name, which I had never heard before)
Adrienne (my step daughter’s name)
Lily
Good luck!!!
Wow you already have a ton of suggestions, but I’ll throw mine in there to :)
Nyah & Cali
I love the names Jayla and Jada (Jaida).. and to Cora- we named our daughter Camryn! same spelling too :)
I adore the name “Thea” I love it so much I contemplated having another child so I could use it, because I FORGOT about it when naming my third child. And to make it worse…. my husband had even given me full, unrestrained freedom in the naming process. This after watching my very difficult labor. Go figure. Oh well, whatcha going to do – it’s only her name for like EVER.
-Andrea
i love this game!
suggestions:
willa, emmaline, emiliana, clara
I’ll play too. My friend Jade named her daughters Nora and Kayleigh. My massage therapist named her daughters Jada and Kaiya (sp?). I love all four names and wish I could pretend I didn’t know Jade so I could use the name Nora for myself. I also love the name Morgan for a girl (taken by my cousin) and my husband and I are going with the name Lauren this pregnancy if we are having a girl. I know you were looking for slightly less popular names but these ones have always stuck me as beautiful for what it is worth.
Oh baby names, yes . . brings us all out of the woodwork. Well, I love my boys but if either of them had been a girl . . . Jane Anne or Sylvie Marie. And yeah, I love the maiden name as first name–it’s fun to explore the family tree a bit and see what’s lurking. I have a great great aunt America, of all things. Can’t wait to hear what y’all decide! :-)
The name that almost became my daughters name is Mirka (pronounced Meerka), and the middle name would have been my best friends name Tiare (Tee-air). I also love Aubryn but my husband vetoed it. Oh and Avery…I like that too.
I enjoy stopping by your blog from time to time and thought I would actually say something when it came to names.
My name is Linley Shea and I’ve never met a Linley in my life and met maybe two people with the name Shea. So it’s definitely rare and pretty! :)
If you are sticking with A’s, I think Ainsley is pretty too. Ainsley Shea?!
Good luck!
Alayna. I love it!
My boys (if they were girls) were going to be Tayla and Sydney.
I also LOVE boys names for girls. I named my youngest son Tyler, and now I think it’s an awesome girl’s name too!

I have to delurk for the baby naming. Also I love your blog.
I have a couple of suggestions of not common names which I will never get to use because my husband like common names and we are done with the baby having.
Daelin (DAY-lin) it’s my sisters middle name and I love it but, it might sound too sing songy with Avelyn.
I also like Tahleah or Shea, I fought tootha dn nail to name our girl Shea but hubby wouldn’t give =o\ Both Tahleah and Shea sound really nice with Avelyn. Also if you went with Shea then your little family would have two A’s and two S’s =o)
If you are still looking for naming help you could always send and email to Swistle, she has a baby naming blog here http://swistlebabynames.blogspot.com/
I thought that coming up with a second girl name was going to be really hard too, but it turned out to be really easy, easier than finding the first girl name. Turns out we didn’t need it this time, we had a boy, so maybe #3 will be a girl.
I am sure you will find a really neat and perfect name for your 2nd little girl.
I must agree with the people who have suggested the name Marin though… ;)
I think the TV show Dexter about ruined that name for everyone. Plus, I thought it was a boys name?
Here’s a list of things NOT to name your baby.

Enjoy! ;)
Taryn
Taya (tay-ah)
Maya (my-a)

There, you got my 2 cents worth for today. Lots of good suggestions in your comments.
One of my personal favorites is Sophie and another that Matt and I throw around a lot is Peyton. Not that we’re pregnant… we just like to talk baby names.
