Little O' This

Random Paragraphs, For Your Reading Pleasure.

Mornings flip on like a switch. One moment I’m laying in bed, wiping drool from the corners of my mouth, and in the next, the baby begins to wail, the dog starts whining to be let out, Avelyn comes charging down the hall and pounces on me, and Steve’s alarm (set to the country music station) will blare. It’s a graceless entry into a new day.

The past week has been insane: we are going ahead with a renovation in our home and I since I am married to a “if you’re going to do it, then do it RIGHT” kind of guy, we are going to be out of our house for quite a few months while an addition is added on and pretty much every wall in the house gets moved. I am thrilled about the final result, but in the mean time we’ve been running around like headless chickens packing up our stuff, moving to our interim home, rehearsing for a Christmas musical production I have a role in, not to mention all the usual busyness of the impending holiday season.

Karenna still is not sleeping through the night, so each day you see me, I am more tired than I was the day before.

I saw New Moon and was one of the breathless houseladies in the audience who audibly gasped for joy when Jacob took off his shirt. Sweet mercy.

I am reading The Lovely Bones. So far it is a great read.

And tonight I am having homemade Bailey’s Cheesecake for dessert. You should come over for a slice.

  • Ok,will be there. What time are you & Sylvia serving?

  • If you lived closer I’d be there for sure. Mmmmmm.

As for your mornings, I have to tell you that when Grace turned one and Adora was almost three, I started a new habit. It was difficult at first, and you might not think it sounds fun (especially until Karenna is sleeping through the night).
I started setting my alarm and getting up an hour earlier than everyone else. Do whaever you want in that hour, but the point was an hour of silence before all the craziness. I was able to meet their (loud shrieking) exuberant faces with genuine smiles when it was time.
Maybe not for you, but it saved my sanity.

  • Lovely Bones is one of my favorite books. It’s a tear-jerker for sure.

  • Make sure you take lots of before and after pics of the reno! We readers want to see!!! :)

  • Oh, wow, a renovation! How totally exciting! My best friend did this: they moved down the street to a rental while the ROOF OF THEIR HOUSE WAS REMOVED, and a 2nd story added on. Her home was painfully tiny (but beautiful and adorable) before, but now it’s 100% perfect for her family.

(Be sure to take Before, During, and After pictures!)

Also, I read Lovely Bones years ago and while I couldn’t put it down, it was so dark that it still haunts me. I guess perhaps a book with that kind of staying power is a “good book”, huh? Even if it still creeps me out?

  • I read Lovely Bones on vacation (totally not a vacation book), but it was so wonderful. I heard that it’s going to be a movie? Someone told me they saw a trailer. I’m off to find it!

  • Loved The Lovely Bones….. movie comes out soon but it’s like they are turning it into a horror movie or something. Wasn’t really a fan of the previews but we shall see! Take care, happy holidays my friend :)

  • What the? Really? You’re renovating? COOL! I mean, *I* think your house is gorgeous, but TOTALLY understand that you want to change things about it. So stoked for you!!!

Where are you staying in the mean time?

I hate mornings. And days too. But I like it when I get to crawl back into bed at night.

If I could? I’d be over there in two seconds flat to share that cheesecake with you. I love cheesecake.

  • I agree with the comment about the before/after pics! Also? Can I just say that I was totally surprised by the gasp that I too, had when Jacob took off his shirt? I really didn’t think that reaction would come out of my mouth, but with abs like those…sheesh. Let’s just say my husband is on a new workout plan…

  • I’m surprised you went and saw New Moon! haha.

The dessert sound divine. The new house will be so worth it. Lovely Bones is coming up on my books to read too. I’ve owned it forever and never picked it up.

And soon, one day, you’ll get to sleep through the night.

  • Good grief! Renovation during the holidays! That has me stressed just thinking about it. Final result will be worth it.

  • love Love LOVE that book. I love the scenario that the people we love in life never really leave us, they are always part of our lives. If I know someone who is struggling with grief, I give them Lovely Bones like a prescription.

  • Saw New Moon last night with some girlfriends. No one in the audience seemed to mind the audible gasps and (maybe some) catcalls. I can’t get into the books but I am shamefully lusting after the movies. Hot damn those boys are ho-o-ot. I’ll take me a vampire anytime, anywhere. And good luck on the renovation!

  • I loved The Lovely Bones. I’m not sure if I want to see the movie, I hate it when the movie is different from the book.

  • Lily despite being almost 16 months old is not consistently sleeping through the night, glad to know I am not the only one sleep deprived.

  • Wow, renos! You just made my heart flutter (I heart renos…esp. someone else’s).
Please, please, please drown us with updates (in photo as well).
    Good luck!

  • Best of luck with the renovations!! That is so exciting. :) I have not read any of those books, so I am really out of the loop when people talk about it.

  • shelley’s thoughts…

    1) So excited about your renos and cant wait to see what it looks like when it’s all done in 2024!

    2) I was forced to watch “twilight” against my will when it came out on video. I will not be watching ‘New Moon’.

3)I started reading ‘the lovely bones’ and was so horrified with the beginning of the book that i put it back on the shelf and then sold it in a garage sale.

    4) where might your temporary dwelling be so that i might find thee when i happen to be in thine neighbourhood post baby jesus day?

  • I will definitely be watching New Moon! I just have no idea when I will get around to doing it.

I am really loving the necklace that I bought at your house last night. I wish I wasn’t so broke from Christmas because I would have liked one or two more. Bretta is a talented lady.

PS I cut my own bangs for all of high school and they looked fine. JUST SO YOU KNOW.

  • Good luck with the renovations!! I hope they go quickly and painlessly with no surprises – because those suck when it comes to renos!

  • i’m sure you’ve heard it all on how to your little one to sleep through the night. but, i figured i’d give you my two cents. my youngest monster -er, i mean son woke up every 4 hours from birth to 9 months and i HAD it. so i tried the good old let-them-cry-for-3-nights trick. and it WORKED!! he’s 2 1/2 and sleeps for 11-12 hours at night and 3-4 hours during the day…pure bliss! (and it makes loving him a LOT easier!!)
