Little O' This, Pregnancy

Inevitably Anticlimactic

Wow. And thanks. You guys came out in droves with your well wishes and congratulatory remarks and I appreciate your every word.

I had my first prenatal appointment and my doctor, who I hadn’t seen in months, gasped, “Amanda! You’re so skinny now!” What a nice compliment. I felt pretty good about myself. Then she continued, “Because you sure did get BIG last time you were pregnant. Let’s not go there again.” My doctor must weigh about 98 pounds and looks to be someone who has never struggled to maintain a petite silhouette. As a result, she’s a little lacking in the tact department. I wanted to punt her skinny rump across the office.

All looks well at this point. I am just over 5 weeks along and feeling good. No nausea, just a little light-headedness, which is what I experienced while pregnant with Avelyn. I have a strong feeling that I’m carrying a boy, but perhaps that is merely wishful thinking. See, if we have another girl, it’s 99% sure that we’ll be trying one last time for a male heir (I draw the line at three kids though). If we have a boy this time around, however, we could be DONE! Which is kind of what I’m hoping for. I just never pictured myself as the mom of a massive brood of booger-nosed kids.

If we are having a boy, I already have his nursery designed. It will be a vintage cowboy theme and will feature this crib bedding:

Because nothing says “Sweet Dreams” like an ox skull.

  • Um, how in the HELL did your last post not show up in my Google Reader?!!

I am SO SO SO excited for you, Amanda!

  • That is pretty darling. I thought Marin was a boy. But when she was a girl I was all “of COURSE SHE IS”. I can’t imagine it any other way. However it turns out, it’s perfect, is what I’m saying.

And unlike you, I would LOVE to have another. The thought of being “done” is so sad to me. The problem? I want more BABIES, but not necessarily more KIDS. I don’t want a big family either (who will have us over for dinner???), but man, I just don’t feel done…

Good wishes continuing to come your way….

  • If I had an ox skull in my room when I was a baby I’d probably have cried all night.

  • I’ll hope for a boy for you too.

I love that crib betting. Very cute. Except I’d skip the skull.

  • I have been looking through that site since you were over yesterday :)

And yes, while I love our shared doctor, she can be blunt sometimes…other than that we scored huge though.

And…were you referring to my brood of booger-nosed kids? Because it was totally deserved ;)

  • thats awesome!! i love the brown walls!!

  • And the sweater vests! Don’t forget the sweater vests!

  • oh no, please tell me you’re not planning on getting the skull!

  • ok, but if you could maneuver the horns into a more upright position, the scary ox skull could do double duty as a clothes rack!

  • Love the cowboy theme idea. Sounds awesome. I was going to go all safari if we had a boy. :)

Glad all went well at your appointment.

  • hehe… I think I’d even be frightened to wake up to that skull!

    Love the sheets though.

I’m so happy for you Amanda :) I’m sure all your readers will agree when I say… I can’t wait to keep reading your story!

  • I think I started reading your blog just before you got pregnant with Avelyn so I know it’s going to be great to read about this new adventure!

  • One of my few goals in life is to have a doctor who DOES NOT comment on my weight unless I ask them too. It just is not helpful to have someone harp on you about your weight…especially when you’re pregnant. You’re an adult, you will take good care of yourself, and the weight can be worked on later!

    And I love the skull!

  • Ooh, I like the vintage cowboy theme! Not so sure about the skull part, lol, but it’s nice to see a boy’s nursery that isn’t trains and cars and such!

  • This is so exciting! Glad everything is looking good! I love the cowboy bedding!

  • Glad to hear the first appointment went well. I dread going into mine and having the opposite response from my dr, because honestly, I’ve put on a few pounds since the last time we’ve seen one another.

Love the room idea, but perhaps I am biased. Charlie’s room is done in a vintage cowboy theme and I love it. If you need any ideas, let me know, I’d love to share what we did.

  • love the cowboy theme! if you don’t do the real ox skull, see if you can find a stuffed ox/cow, rip the head off, and mount it to the wall!!! i think it’ll be funny…

  • Laughing at your ox skull comment… :)

    Congrats again!

  • The more booger noses around the better! I should have started younger …

    Love the cowboy theme!

  • Hilarious.

  • Congratulations!

I like the skull…and for an even fuller effect, you could surround the crib with large Cacti.

I store my tact in the form of 10 extra pounds around my mid-section.

  • love that skull. I should get one for Hunter’s room!!

  • Well it’s obvious you make beautiful girls so I can only imagine what I little curly haired boy will look like. And, yes, I’d have punted her indeed.

I’m just so happy for you, it’s crazy.

  • Congratulations! here is hoping for the boy of your dreams. Vintage cowboy? SOOOO awesome.

  • I like the commenter above’s idea of a stuffed ox head – much better than the real thing!

And what’s up with your doctor? I got the opposite response from my midwife “We wont worry about your weight this time around since you lost it all after last time”. Those were sweet words.

  • Congratulations Amanda! Yay!

  • I love the little boy’s room. Very cute. I would love to decorate a little boy’s room for Micah but he has to share a room with Brielle right now. I don’t think my princess loving daughter would be ok with cowboy’s and ox skulls on her walls. ha ha.
Oh…and I just thought you might be interested to know that the chances of you having a boy after having 2 daughters in a row goes down considerably. I don’t remember why, but this is coming from my pediatrics nurse sister.

  • Abbey – any idea if this holds for two boys in a row too? Our family want a grand-daughter but we want to stop at two and could use an excuse…

  • While the cowboy theme is endearing, I think that you would be much better off by covering the room with argyle; it will match better with all of the little guy’s sweater-vests.

  • the ox skull sure is a nice (and creepy) touch, isn’t it? :)

  • I am late to the well-wishing! party. But what I lack in promptness, I will more than compensate for in sheer joy (for you!). CONGRATULATIONS, love. SO incredibly happy for you.

  • i like the cowboy theme and the fabric print. But i think the skull on the wall is a BAD idea. I mean, if it falls down, i might pierce an organ of baby Leroy. Bad bad bad.

  • oh yeah, i’m going to call your stomach Leroy. Just thought you should know ;)

  • Wow, you did get a lot of comments, but then, you are ever so popular..you skinny thing :)

And I loved the comment that you wanted to punt her skinny rump across the room. Too funny.

Glad you aren’t sick or anything and I hope for a boy for you :)

  • Haha! Nice!
Have you seen the new baby store in Kelowna? Modern Baby, it’s off of Bernard, it’s so fun! I want EVERYTHING in there!

  • Seriously, I’m like the last person to know everything. Congratulations!

  • Love the cowboy theme!

    Congratulations!!!
